Writing badly is better…

… than not writing at all

This may not come off very well — and that’s ok.

Putting it out there, scratching my creative itch, practicing being vulnerable — those are the success metrics that matter in the long run.

Creativity is a vulnerable endeavor. It requires that we take risks, expose ourselves to criticism, and what if only 3 people read it?!

Why would we want to release a bad creation into the world?

Because it makes us stronger, more resilient, and most important it gives other people permission to try. Bonus points — your “bad” work may be seen as amazing by someone.

Author Stephen King received a small mountain of rejections before he began getting traction with his books. Arguably those rejections improved his writing and his resolve (read his autobiography).

The vast majority of people are too afraid of criticism to actually publish any creative work. You win just because you are willing to be that rare standout who does publish.

Writing and publishing is an act of bravery, a practice of courage, and a builder of our anti-fragile muscles. We all need more of this.

Thank you.
